Workload Characterization and Capacity Planning for MS SQL Server
نویسنده
چکیده
Microsoft SQL Server is a multi-component database management system taking advantage of many features of the underlying operating system. Obtaining a breakdown of its workload by categories such as users and applications requires a non-standard approach. This paper describes such an approach as well as architectural features of MS SQL Server relevant for workload analysis and capacity planning.

Eve: A Scalable Network Client Emulator
Client emulation tools play a central role in the performance evaluation, capacity planning, and workload characterization of servers. However, traditional emulation tools, because of their limited scalability and extensibility, fail to keep up with servers as they increase in complexity and performance. In this paper, we propose Eve, a scalable client emulation tool that is capable of stress-t...

متن کاملA whitepaper from iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase Inc. Capacity planning with SQL Anywhere
We present an overview of issues to consider when designing a performance evaluation of sql Anywhere. In particular, we outline potential pitfalls when designing a benchmark based on a specific database application. We address issues related both to the construction of a model database instance, and a model application workload, and outline an approach to construct a model of performance to det...

We present a thorough characterization of the access patterns in blogspace, which comprises a rich interconnected web of blog postings and comments by an increasingly prominent user community that collectively define what has become known as the blogosphere. Our characterization of over 35 million read, write, and management requests spanning a 28-day period is done at three different levels. T...
